The 4 Muskateers of Tulane 1969-1971

Almost 44 years ago I arrived at Tulane University with my first wife. We moved into an apartment on the 4th floor of the Charles Rosen House. I became close friends with three other men; Mutizwa Chirunga, Ken Jaye, and Bill Schoof. We became “The Four Muskateers.” I left Tulane in June of 1971. I tried to keep in touch with my dear friends. Sadly Mutiza Chirunga died of cancer in 2004 at age 53. I got my page set up on the new Tulane alumni website. I got the sad news that both Ken Jaye and Bill Schoof had passed away. I am the sole survivor. That makes one think and reflect.

I spent 8 months living in a Xhosa village in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. I was given he nickname Tatamkulu Africa. In Xhosa it means "Grandfather Africa." In April of 1994 I was allowed to vote in the first democratic election in South Africa..I was honored to be part of such a historical moment. It was a beautiful and a magical day.
